A storyteller on the Rcoz.us platform, the father of a daughter with special needs speaks about his experiences as a father, husband and employee and gives recommendations to others who are also touched by someone with special needs.
His daughter Shilpa had a high fever at the age of 15 months which was later diagnosed as meningitis. This resulted in brain damage. After a couple months of treatment she came back with many things missing. She could not speak. She could not see clearly. She lost neck control. She was experiencing involuntary movement. His daughter had special needs and the family took care of her while knowing her disabilities. The family made it a point to keep a schedule of Shilpa’s daily activities. Unfortunately she died a little more than 13 years of age due to suffocation by the pillow that she was using.
The father feels his daughter brought him luck and because of her he met many influential people. He increased his network considerably. He calls it a blessing. It was challenging raising his daughter but if he had another opportunity to raise a similar special needs child he would jump at the opportunity. He calls it his service to God.
What an inspiring story of love and resilience that brought a family closer to God. I find it rare for someone to welcome another special needs child into their life after having gone through the sorrow of having one pass. I imagine there are many families that can relate to this story and will follow the father’s recommendation of not behaving like you sympathize with your child, just raise them as a normal child. Take it like a challenge and you will find you are handsomely rewarded. So much good comes out of sharing this story. It is not often that people are willing to share stories that are personal. There is an element of caring when such stories are shared because knowing there are people out there that are going through or have gone through a situation find it a blessing locating and communicating with people with similarities.
